Midhurst Milers Running Club

News Headlines

Here are details of a couple of events organised by Tom Frost at Liss Runners which the midhurst Milers are invited along to:

The first is an orienteering event near Petersfield which is the same day as the London Marathon (Sunday 22nd April 2007).

The second is a series of Pub runs over the summer. As you will see Midhurst are hosting the first one (13th May):

Please note that the teams have also been selected for the South Downs Relay, which is Saturday 2nd June. You will have been notified if you are on one of the teams and will be told which legs you are running very shortly.

Sunday 15th April

We had a good turnout at the Arundel Park 10K today.  Here are our results.  It was a hot day and a hilly course, so I think we were all quite grateful for the 9.30am start once we had managed to drag ourselves out of bed!  Well done especially to Emily who not only won the women’s race, but also broke the women’s course record.  All positions are overall:

7th Emily Nelson 39.51
10th Tim Young 40.31
29th Mark Alden 44.00
105th Glen Keegan 49.30
119th Natasha Young 50.01
127th Jenny Philips 50.17
145th David Pick 51.16
184th Jim Green 53.23
199th Nicola Costello 54.15
253rd Mike Hemans 57.37

Rob and Kate did the Puma Dunsfold 10K (results below).  Although Rob’s official time was a PB (well done Rob!), his Garmin recorded it a minute faster still!  Not sure whether you had the same problem Kate?

Rob’s chip time was 38.47 (29th overall, 16th in category)
Kate’s chip time was 47.00 (126th overall, 8th in category)

Well done to everyone who ran!

Easter Sunday 2007

Congratulations to Tim Young (Midhurst Milers) who won the short course at the Goodwood Duathlon on Easter Sunday.  Click here to see the full results http://website.lineone.net/~portsmouth_triathletes/gw07sres.htm.

Saturday 24th March 2007

Congratulations to Michelle Quaid who finished 110th of 293 at the English Schools Cross Country Championships today. You can see a picture of Michelle and some of her Sussex team mates in the sports section of the Midhurst & Petworth Observer (Thursday 12th April 2007)!

15th February 2007

I have been waiting for Portsmouth Joggers to publish the results of the Meon Valley Plod before I send this email, but they still haven’t so I have decided to send you my best guesses at everyone’s times instead!  Apologies to those who ran if I am wildly out!!  For those that don’t know it, the Meon Valley Plod is a 20 mile cross country that takes in some stunning scenery along the South Downs, including the (very steep!) Butser Hill.  The course was different this year, taking us up around Old Winchester Hill as well, which was great.

Tim Young – 2.50
Rob Jenkinson – 2.53
David Pick – 3.24
Kate Harris – 3.38
Jenny Philips – 3.40
Natasha Young – 3.50-something
Fiona Hamilton-Fox – 4 hours and a couple of minutes
Jane Newnham – shortly after Fiona

Congratulations in particular to David, who beat his marathon time by a full 10 minutes (a lot of people use their marathon time as a target at the Plod as the different terrain makes them roughly comparable) and to Jane, as this is the first race she has done over this kind of distance (talk about a baptism of fire!).

There are some photos online if anyone wants to see for themselves - http://www.imagetogo.net/go/?13513 (David is in the first batch, p.28, Nat, Jen & Kate are amongst the ‘no numbers’ on p.6, I ran out of time before I found the others, but they are all there somewhere!)

Meanwhile, Julie and Dawn were running a ‘proper’ race, the Wokingham Half, and here is Dawn’s account…”Julie and I ran almost completely separate races, but managed to cross the finish line together in 2:20:40 (according to my watch).  My only gripe about the race was that the medal was incorrectly printed with '2006'! ;-) “

Michelle has also taken part in a number of events recently and has been doing brilliantly.  Recent achievements include being 2nd U20 in Sussex Cross Country League on the 13th Feb, and 4th in the Sussex Schools Champs, so she will be off to Leeds for the English Schools final at the end of March.  Well done Michelle!

Natasha

Hart Cross Country - 21st Jan 2007

Well done team, a good turnout, on a tough run.

The women's team were 2nd and the men's team were 6th, giving an overall Milers position of 4th.

After 4 races in the league we are lying 3rd overall (tbc) which is excellent.

Just 2 more races to go.  Next race is on Sunday 18th Feb and will be hosted by Stubbington Green Runners.

Neil Strachan (Club Captain)

Well done Michelle!

Michelle Quaid, running for Chichester Runners, competed in the Sussex County Championships on Saturday 7th Jan '07. She was 18th senior Lady and incredibly she was 4th under 20 Lady (Michelle is just 17!). This means Michelle has been selected to run for the Sussex team at the National cross country Championships next month. Congratulations Michelle!

Midhurst 10K 2007
The 2007 event will be held on Sunday 12th August. This year, for the first time, the Midhurst 10K has been asked to incorporate the County Championships. This is a great honour and we will be pulling out all the stops to make sure it is our best race yet. We look forward to seeing you there!
